A great deal has happened over the past few months. One of the most recent events is my husband and I roadtrippin’ from the East Coast to the West Coast of the U.S. We stopped in Ohio, South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada before finally reaching California.
While I was largely a passenger princess, it was refreshing to get out and see our beautiful country again. The changing of landscapes, climate, foods, and people is never dull. Visiting with family along the way made our trip even sweeter.
Our time was our own, but establishing a routine— podcasts, books on tape, music, and discussing the future fueled our long drives.
A new hotel in New Orleans, a night on the River Walk in San Antonio, an Airstream in Zion, an Airbnb in Albuquerque, and a stay in Mammoth Lakes also kept things interesting before finally arriving in San Francisco.
A few notes from our trip:
-Not all gas stations or rest stops are the same, but Love’s bathrooms were consistently clean!
-Late-night driving fuel must include Skittles and Beef Jerky.
-Downloading audiobooks is a must, especially when there is intermittent connection.
-Comfy and layered clothing is everything.
-An organized go-bag within easy reach is essential.
-Having the car serviced and not waiting until our gas tank gets close to empty is good (responsible) peace of mind stuff.
-Mapping out food places or points of interest kicks it up a level.
This is not our first time taking a long road trip, but it is our first time doing so as empty nesters. We look forward to doing it again!
Some pictures of our time on the road. :0)
